We’ve got these cool pictures, called spectrograms, that show us what 50 different wolf howls look like. When you play them all together, it’s a lot of sound! But, using special computer programs, scientists can sort through all that noise to find the important bits. They already know that wolves can tell each other apart just by listening to their howls. It makes you think – do they have actual names for each other, like we do? Or is it more like when you hear a friend’s voice on the phone and just know who it is? A howl basically seems to say, “Here I am! Where are you?”
